Athyrium filix-femina

General Description:
A delicate, finely cut soft green fern often seen in woodlands and meadows. Each arching frond is delicately forked. Despite its' delicate appearance, it is quite rugged and adapts well. Will tolerate sun more than most ferns. One of the most widely grown of all temperate fern genera. This clumper is great when planted in mass or as a backdrop for hostas in the woodland garden. An excellent addition for naturalizing a shaded area. This is a plant that may be the answer to the tricky spot under the eaves of the house where soil can be dry and shaded. The plant will bounce back the next year if it is trampled by children or the family dog. Easy to grow fern is adaptable to moist sunny gardens as well as dry shade.

Care and Maintenance:
Prefers partial shade, but will grow in full sun when the moisture supply is adequate. It is tolerates dry soil better than most ferns, although drought, heat waves, and persistent winds will scorch the fronds, turning them brown along the leaf edge.
